what's going on ...

  • The Jason Miller Playwrights’ Project’s new Dramatists Support Group will meet monthly at The Olde Brick Theatre in Scranton on the third Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. (April's meeting will be held on Thursday, April 18th and is dedicated to Rock Bottom.) Talk to other playwrights with a sympathetic ear instead of driving your significant other crazy, ask for advice on production and submission, or just listen and seize the inspiration.
  • First Friday Scranton presents its annual art auction on Friday, April 12 at the Scranton Cultural Center. Make a donation, buy a ticket or learn about other ways you can support Scranton's most vital ongoing arts event at http://firstfridayscranton.com.
  • The Lackawanna County Council on Arts & Culture will present What's the BIG Idea?,  a fun evening of brainstorming and networking on Tuesday, April 23 at the Platform Lounge in The Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel in Downtown Scranton from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Admission is free of charge. Share your two cents with others in the community and contribute to positive change. www.lackawannacounty.org.

If you've ever tried to market an arts event, you know all too well the old complaint isn't true. There's plenty to do in NEPA.

Art, as they say, is a dialogue. All those hours upon hours, and blood, sweat and talent you put into making something beautiful can feel futile without an audience to complete the conversation.

The Lackawanna County Department of Arts and Culture has created a "how to" kit for marketing your art that takes the guess work out of getting the word out.

Council member Alicia Grega will share its steps on Wednesday, July 18 at 6:30 p.m. at Library Express at The Mall of Steamtown.
An arts journalist on staff at the electric city/diamond city weekly arts and entertainment newspaper published by The Scranton Times-Tribune for NEPA for more than 11 years, Grega also works in the trenches as an artist herself. She'll offer insights and examples from both sides of the table in this free, 90-minute workshop.
